Moving Forward from Occupational Therapy’s Centennial

Keynote Address 

"Bridging the Centennial Vision to Vision 2025"

Shawn Phipps, PhD, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA is the Vice President of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and has also served as a Board Director on the AOTA Board of Directors (2012 - Present).  Dr. Phipps is also the Chief Quality Officer & Associate Hospital Administrator at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center.  Dr. Phipps is responsible for hospital-wide strategic planning, quality improvement, directing the implementation of key hospital-wide strategic initiatives, leadership development, driving the development of effective and efficient systems of patient-centered care across the continuum, and engaging all levels of the organization in creating a culture and commitment to quality improvement and innovation.  Dr. Phipps also oversees the hospital’s accreditation programs with The Joint Commission (TJC) and the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and provides oversight of the Quality Resource Management Department and the Patient Safety, Infection Control, and the Risk Management Departments. 

Dr. Phipps has also served two consecutive elected terms as the President of the Occupational Therapy Association of California (OTAC) from 2008 – 2012, was inducted as a Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association (FAOTA) in 2011, was a recipient of the AOTA Cordelia Myers Writer's Award in 2008, the OTAC Practice Award in 2005, and was the 2014 recipient of the OTAC Award of Excellence and the 2015 recipient of the AOTA Recognition of Achievement for Excellence in Leadership, Management, and Administration.  Dr. Phipps is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Southern California, where he teaches the leadership, management, quantitative research, and evidence-based practice courses.
