Programs For People is a Life Skills Center
Mental illness is surely one of the most perplexing diseases of our time. Without as yet a definitive cure, treatment can be lengthy and trying for those afflicted, and challenging for providers of mental health care. One reason for this is the fact that mental illness may severely limit an individual's ability to meet the demands of everyday living or become employed.
For this reason, Programs For People has developed comprehensive services to help the client address not only psychological needs but the ability to engage successfully in all aspects of life. In our experience, attention to self-care, health, vocation, socialization and recreation as well as to the illness increases the client's ability to achieve his or her goals. Our services are provided within the context of a highly supportive atmosphere that promotes and facilitates change.
Clients of Programs For People are asked to set specific goals for service utilization and progress is monitored at regular intervals. Services are time-limited with the exception of follow-up services which are available on a long-term basis, if necessary. The cost of a day at Framingham Day Hospital is roughly one fifth that of full hospitalization in an inpatient facility although many of the same services are offered. As a community-based agency, Programs For People has made every effort to provide services that are reimbursable for those with private insurance or Medicaid.
A leader in its field since its inception in 1973, Framingham Day Hospital was the first psychiatric day treatment program in Massachusetts to offer short-term, goal-oriented treatment, and employment placement in the private sector. Both clients and referrants benefit from working with a highly experienced and dedicated team, some of whom have been with the program since it began.
Programs For People Has a Unique Philosophy
We are all in the process of growing and learning. Each of us hopes to realize our dreams and reach our highest potential.
For those who have experienced mental illness, this journey may be more challenging, but nevertheless the process is the same. Time and circumstance provide opportunities to gain greater understanding of ourselves, to make constructive change, and to move forward in a more positive direction.
It is the sincere desire of Programs For People to accelerate this learning process for all who walk through its doors.
