VISION THERAPY STRATEGIES for the CLASSROOM

Rebecca Hughes, MS OTR/L has 18 years of experience working as a pediatric occupational therapist. She is passionate about helping all children reach their full potential.  Her experience includes outpatient rehab, school based services, private practice and early intervention.  She currently works full time as the Director of Therapy Services at Family Service of Rhode Island Early Intervention.  She is a frequent guest lecturer at Community College of Rhode Island for the COTA Pediatrics course.  Rebecca and a Rhode Island based optometrist collaborated for 9 years. They created and grew a partnership which addressed the medical and functional needs of school aged children with oculomotor and visual processing disorders.  This collaborative vision therapy treatment approach helped hundreds of children improve their functional visual skills for success at home, school and at play.

 Objectives for this session include:

 •   Become familiar with common visual disorders and how they affect daily school function

Experience and become familiar with simple classroom based vision therapy strategies in order to address common visual disorders

Explore visual assessment tools commonly used to inform treatment of visual disorders.
